The Coronavirus Song
Yes, this is to the tune of the Major-General's song. With many apologies to Gilbert and Sullivan.

I've shared this on Facebook, but this is where it shall live.

We’re ordering a lot of different elements of medical
Masks and gowns and microscopes to observe the infinitesimal
Syringes, gloves, and alcohol (but not to take internally)
And biohazard gear to guard against viral insurgency

We are ...

Don't Panic! Do Think!
Trump is now saying that the WHO Coronavirus mortality rate is wrong, and that people with the disease are, you know, going to work. It's fine. He has a "hunch" the rate is a lot lower. Hey, people just have low-level symptoms. They're even going to work. This is what he said.

Numbers don't lie. However, I believe the mortality rate as reported in the US is going to drop as we get more testing kits out. (China is at right around 3.5% right now.)

Pandering to the Base
So, Trump is going to attend a pro-life march. This, folks, explains it all. This is the base. The people who think every sperm is sacred. And in the name of keeping every sperm sacred, they tolerate the erosion of their other rights, a higher tax burden, and quite possibly loss of employment once all this comes tumbling down, which it will at some point.

I don't believe that abortion should be taken lightly. However, I also believe the following:

Preaching to the Choir? Or Pissing People Off?
I'm either preaching to the choir or I'm gonna piss a lot of people off with this post. Let's see what happens.

Every time I see a story about Roy Moore in our local paper (or sometimes shared out here on FB) there's a group of usual suspects who start yammering on about Bill Clinton. You know what? When Bill Clinton runs for office again or if someone else steps forward to accuse him of new sexual improprieties, then let's talk about it. I'm all for it. But in the con...

Know Your Enemy
I'm going to make a confession.

When I was in high school, I read "Mein Kapmf." I wrote a paper on Adolph Hitler.

There was a reason I did that, and when the teacher understood my reasoning she wholeheartedly approved of my research topic. I wanted to figure out how he got to power in the first place. How good people could let this happen. (The answer is complicated. The paper was long.)

I once came upon a book...

Get Off Your Ass And Vote
(Apologies and kudos to those of you who already have voted.)

It's simple: Voting is making your voice heard.

And I hear you whine: But I'm one of millions! It doesn't matter. Down at the local level races are often decided by a handful of votes. You don't like who got voted in as dog catcher, and she only won by a hu...

Apologizing For Our State Officials...Again
So our governor is now under indictment. Will the charges stick? I dunno. Did he do it? Well, that's up to the courts to decide. I hope he gets his day in court, though. I'm not sure he can get a conviction in a hyper-partisan state like Texas.

Here are the facts as I understand them.

Rosemery Lehmberg is the District Attorney for Travis County. Austin (the state capitol...

My Comment Is Awaiting Moderation
And yeah, I know why. I used the s-word. Not the one you think, but slut. Oh, noes. In the comment section of our local paper, there is the inevitable highly-charged discussion of abortion. Our governor added it to the special session. The inevitable response from the knee-jerk, far-right (not the logical right, mind you. It does exist, but they get drowned out) is "oh, she shouldn't spread her legs, then." What of the man? As my momma always told me, it takes two to tango. Someone actually told...

Secede? Be Careful What You Wish For
Doubtless by now you’ve seen or heard of the petition to allow Texas to secede from the United States. The petition is short, and I’ll quote it in its entirety:
The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government's neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffe...

Election Thoughts
Well, I'm glad it's over.

John Scalzi wrote a really good piece regarding what the GOP needs to do from here. Some of my points will echo his, but hey, I was thinking about them before I saw the article. But it's a good read. So go forth and read, but please return.

I'll wait.
