Long weekend

Chris is in the city bowling tournament this weekend. I must admit that this was the smoothest-run squad I've witnessed in a long time. They even got the one glitch out of the way quickly. And amazingly, the center rolled out a large dolly full of chairs!

This is one of my pet peeves about youth bowling tournaments. Centers usually have enough seating to cover the league members on any given night plus a few visitors. It doesn't take a lot of imagination to realize that bowlers plus spectators in a youth tournament equals a lack of seating. Most centers we've been to don't do anything to accomodate the extra people, so this was unexpected and very nice. What they've undoubtedly realized is that the parents of a good many of these youth bowlers are bowlers themselves, and if the place treats spectators this well, how must they treat the bowlers? It's a small gesture, but it goes a long way. It's nice to see that someone has got the right idea.

Chris bowled a little over his average in the team event today. Tomorrow is singles and doubles, and he'll be bowling with his regular partner, so I hope he'll do really well. He and his partner get along great, and her parents are really nice people.

Speaking of parents, I wish the tournament officials would go around and remove parents from the bowler's area. There are barely enough seats for the bowlers, let alone family members. Move out and let the kids sit down!

So Chris did okay today. This was the first tournament for a couple of kids on his team and they had so much fun that they can't want to do another.

Afterward we went out to try and find props for round two of the Catmas card. We eventually found something, and I hope it works. And since we were in the same end of town as our favorite Tex-Mex place, we had to stop in for dinner and margaritas. Excuse me, margaritas and dinner. Must get my priorites straight.

I am absolutely dead. This is a horrid thing to say for a Saturday night, but I'm going to hit the sack early.
