(Above: Oak leaf prints and an acorn found along my walk this morning.)
Maybe for a couple of days. This morning was nice enough that I could get out for a walk. We even got a bit of rain the other day. It's been a welcome respite from the constant heat. It looks like we're in for at least another week and a half of high temperatures, though.
Still, it was good to get out or a welk, at last. Walks give me the opportunity to mentally recharge.
Last night was position round in bowling, and we did okay. As for me, I'd raised my average by four pins after last week's amazing showing. I barely made my average last night, though. My neuropathy was giving me fits last night. When that happens, I sometimes walk as though I've been drinking something a lot stronger than water. It really throws my timing off. Overall, it's improving, but when I have bad days, they're really bad.
My time lately has been taken up with multiple tasks. One, of course, is trip planning. I don't mind talking about this in advance as we'll have someone staying here while we're gone. I won't be sharing a lot of details like the dates. You'll find out when we get back.
My newest little toy is another desk buddy of sorts - a Waveshare device that has an ESP-32, an epaper display, and some sensors. I'm playing with the XiaoXhing AI. While I would be happy for generative AI to burn down, fall over, and sink into the swamp, I know there's a place for other AI. My hearing aids have some to help sort conversation from noise. There are many uses in medicine, and to be honest, it's probably even been used in my cancer detection and treatment. The thing I'm playing with is a kind of personal assistant. I've always been fascinated with those. I'm hooking it into Home Assistant so I can have some voice notifications and perhaps control some devices.
The family photo project continues. I've taken a bit of a break, but I need to get back on it. It all gets a bit overwhelming sometimes. I'm on my 20th binder and coming close to finishing one family line. The next one is gonna be a bear, because it's Paul's line. With my own line I have a lot of oral history that had been reinforced over the years during holidays. I have some of that with Paul's line, along with a batch of pictures that he's gone through to identify people. He's happy to help me out, which is one reason I've been building a local web application. He'll be able to go in and add identifying details to some of the photographs.
My first task will be sorting them. One thing I have on my side is that I was motivated to get my family line out of the way first, so now I have a bit of a system in place. Also, my pictures have been arriving in batches over the years, and weeding out duplicates has been a challenge. We got two drops from his family, and that's going to be it, so we can sort them all at once. Even if it takes us weeks to do the job, I'm fairly confident that there won't be more coming. Of course, I never know. It's still gonna be a bear just due to the sheer number of albums and loose photos. There are far more than I got from my side of the family.
Oh, and I know there are more photos at my sister's house. Now she'll read this and decide to round them all up! hey, I'm fine with that. I would really like to get this done while we still have the chance to identify some people.
And this is where the machine learning aspect of AI could be useful: It might help us identify people. Will it get some wrong? Yep. Have we gotten some wrong? Yep.
I suppose if I'm going to get on this, I'd better get cracking.
