Patches? You may need those steenkin' patches!
Yes, it's Patch Tuesday! If you're a Windows user, it's time for the monthly ritual. Of course, if you have Automatic Updates turned on, you may have the patches installed by the time you read this.
If you're a Mac user you should make sure you've got patches as well. Apple has released a new patch to fix the last patch, according to ZDNet.
And wait: There's more! Macromedia has a 3/14/2006 8:16:00 PM
Rainy days and Tuesdays
Just when we thought this crud was going to clear out, here comes another round of rain. I need to visit the fabric wholesaler today, but I won't if it's raining. Why? Because it's on the other side of Dallas, which means I'll be sitting in stalled traffic because people around here don't know how to drive when there's a little water on the road.
Does that sound paranoid? Nope. Just as I was typing that last sentence in the paragraph above, my phone rang. It was my mom calling from her ce...

No fun at all
I was awakened at four this morning by a light tapping on my foot. I knew it had to be Midnight, so I grumbled and raised my foot up and down - a move that sometimes discourages her.
The tapping continued. Then I could feel a hand shaking my foot, which pretty much sent me jumping. There stood Chris. "I've got a fever." It wasn't one of those low-grade 99 or 100 degree jobs; he went all out with 103.4. Yeesh. He ran down the litany of symptoms: Fever, alternating chills and hot skin, upse...

Are we having fun, yet?
No we certainly are not. No sir, not one bit.
Here's the story: Yesterday morning I started getting calls and messages (though alternate addresses) that e-mail to me was bouncing. It's all very bizarre. Apparently the hosting service got on my ISP's blacklist, so I'm having problem s with mail from here and HouseFans.net. The ISP isn't on the Spamhaus black list, so I find this odd - especially as my ISP is listed as one of the top ten spammers from Spamhaus.
Change ISPs? I have no ...

Update on the spyware threat
I'm getting ready to dig in and do some work for a client, but before I get started I want to offer up some more information on Saturday's post, plus a couple of links. Oseary offers a link for Spy Sheriff removal on his blog: http://www.pesosforpenguins.com/2006/01/10/spy-sheriff-removal-walkthrough/.
The second person I mentioned on my post got hit with a blended threat similar to <...

Watch out for this threat
I'm going to quote from an e-mail I sent to some friends this morning. I know of a couple of people with fully patched systems that got hit with some very nasty spyware and Trojan programs. I'm starting a new category called Security. You can search for >Security (be sure to include the > character to search tags) to find any posts in this topic.
Do me a favor and don't copy this and send it to everyone you know. Send them to this page if you want. As new patches are released and th...
