Round Robin Photo Challenge

Fresh (almost) daily from Julie Barrett

This week's challenge is "Flower Power," which was suggested by Renee' of TCS2.

Both of you who read this journal on a reglar basis know that I love to photograph flowers. I was hoping to get something new for this challenge, but we're under drought conditions and watering restrictions, so any flowers that happen to be blooming right now are kind of miserable. Instead, I'll just have to recycle some of what I hope are the more interesting pictures I've taken lately:

Smoke Tree Blossom

This is a plant native to my part of the country called a Smoke Tree. The blooms start out purple and then turn a smoky grey as the berries form. I almost took this tree down. When we moved into the house it was ugly and we had no idea what it was. A friend who is a master gardner gave us some tips and now it's quite a lovely tree.

bee

This is one of those "got lucky" shots. One morning I went out to shoot some newly-emerged peach blossoms and found about four bees buzzing around. They ignored me while they blissfully went after the pollen. I suppose I'll have to be more careful about that next spring; killer bees have been found in the neighborhood.

Cut flowers 3/3/0/06

I placed this vase of lilies on the fireplace one afternoon. The fireplace sits at an angle next to the back door, which faces north, so I get some interesting light in the afternoons.

Macro mum

I shot this one three years ago, but it's a favorite of mine. I placed a vase of flowers on my desk, opened the curtain, and used a piece of foam core to reflect the light onto the flower. Just goes to show that you don't have to have an arsenal of expensive equipment in order to get a decent shot.

As always, click on the images to go to larger versions.

I like the last one best also. It's very geometric and subtle. The pales green in the middle makes the shot!
