Well. 2012 was an ... interesting year. I'm still finishing my year-end books, but I can say that it was my best year on that front since the economy crashed in 2008. Still, it was a year of ups and downs.
January:
The
big announcement for me was that I'll be running the Hugo Awards Ceremony at LoneStarCon3 in 2013. Wait. That's this year. In less than nine months. Eep.
February:
Busy, but I did attend
ConDFW.
June: Busy with SoonerCon and ApolloCon. Oh, and I got a new
embroidery machine. Damn, I wish my sewing space still looked that good.
September I had the concrud and barely made a story deadline in the 100+ degree heat in the home office. No, seriously. I had a fan blowing over a bowl of ice cubes. The A/C tech was here working on the system while I was typing away furiously. He's a Doctor Who fan, which was the only cool thing about that day. Oh, and there was
vegetarian haggis. Then FenCon, which I limped through with a sinus headache. (Does one limp with a sinus headache? One certainly had light sensitivity issues.)
October was a really busy month. First, I found an
amazing Steampunk jacket, just in time for
Octopodicon! Two days after the con I had
cataract surgery. Paul went off to the Build conference, and I went away to finally scatter my dad's ashes. Oh, and I had Fan Days in there, somewhere.
December was another crazy month. First I had to scramble to finish the
Catmas Card. Then we got our first
new car in sixteen or so years. (I can't believe I didn't mention this in the Journal for the entire six weeks between order and delivery. I think I was afraid to jinx it.) And to wrap up the year, a
White Christmas.
A couple of other interesting things have happened, but I'm not to the point where I can mention them yet. Watch this space.
And just as I was wrapping up this post I saw a breaking news tweet that a "fiscal cliff" deal has been reached. My fervent wish is that the new Congress puts aside petty politics and gets some stuff done for a change. I think I have a better shot at making the NYT list this year. ;-)
And my wish for you is a wonderful 2013.
