Weekend Assignment: Time's Up!
Fresh (almost) daily from
Julie Barrett
The first decade of the new millennium
is winding down. (Yes, I know that technically the decade runs from
2001-2010. But still.) Is there anything in particular you wanted to
accomplish this year or in the "aughties?" How did it go? Is there
still something you hope to get done before the year is out?
Long ago I learned to resolve not to make any resolutions. Long-term plans, yes. Even those fail, but long-term plans and goals are - for me - more achievable than those spur of the moment "it's a new year and I must do something!" plans.
A statement I made the first day of 2009 seems to hold true still:
So, what do I have to look forward to this year? I'm not sure if it's going to be a better year for me in terms of work. I'm just going to keep plugging away and hope for the best. I'm working very hard on trying to quit obsessing with the things that are out of my hands and concentrate on the things I can do something about. I can't make the economy turn around. I couldn't make a large client stay afloat and keep using my services. Yet, I can work on my own skill set and explore new options. Honestly, I think that's the best I can do, year in and year out.
Extra Credit: Have you a particular goal for the next decade? And what do we call the 2010-2019, anyway?
The goal is to just keep plugging away. One thing at a time. Or half a dozen, as the case usually seems to be around here. ;-)
