Workus Interruptus...Or Something Like That

Fresh when it gets here from Julie Barrett

I've only had one major item on my agenda for the week - getting this darn desk clean. Instead, it's been everything but.

Woke up Monday morning to find an e-mail in my inbox that needed immediate action. While that's certainly not unusual, this was one of those things that triggered a cascade of other events. Nothing nasty, though. Just one of those things. One of the joys of freelancing is that things happen when I least expect.

Along the way I realized that I needed to follow up on some open items. Another "joy" of my type of work. There's a lot of hurry up and wait, followed by an avalanche of tasks that need to be done last week.

I knew the job was dangerous when I took it.

The WIP I had the breakthrough on last week has been stalled. I have several choices in terms of Major Conflict (capitalized because, you know, it's big!), and I need to decide what needs to be the driving conflict and what should go in the background. Right now I'm just trying to mentally take each choice and see where it goes. That makes for sleepless nights and very interesting dreams. Last night I had a walk-on part in the very last episode of "Dr Who" to feature the Tenth Doctor. David Tennant and Billie Piper were wonderful to work with and I'd like to thank the Academy, and ... wait a minute. It was only a dream. And what does that have to do with my WIP? Not sure. The brain works in mysterious ways.

Oops. There goes the electic mail notification again. Another thing go do. No hurry, but yesterday would be fine. The desk will never get clean at this rate. So what else is new?
