Where Has The Week Gone? Down the Drain!
Fresh (almost) daily from
Julie Barrett
Well, it could go down the drain if we had water. This morning, just as I was thinking about popping into the shower, the doorbell rang. I steeled myself to give an earful to whoever might be pushing tracts at that hour and was greeted by a man in a hard hat and safety vest. He informed me that there had been a "pretty big" main break down the street and that they were going to have to shut the water off in about half an hour. I thanked him and ran down the hall to take care of various bits of business. The water was still on when I left the house at a little after 9:00, but already construction trucks were outside and workers were tearing up bits of the street.
This was the scene down the street just a little while ago:

We might have water back in as soon as half an hour. In the meantime we spent the morning away and had lunch out. Both Chris and I had to get stuff done today, though. He had an e-class at 1:00 and I just have a pile o' stuff.
And down the alley we have this:

Someone is either laying new cable or repairing an existing line. I have Internet service, so that's all that matters right now.
Down to other things to do. I spent part of the morning going through UK edition galleys for the Two of the Deadliest story. The kindly "fixed" every instance of one word. Now I have to go through and pick each one out (using the search function on OpenOffice will be helpful here) and find and correct each instance. Sigh. Before I do that, I'm going to ask a UK writer I know, just to be sure this isn't a UK spelling. I don't think it is, but I'll be on the safe side.
One more post on a different topic, then it's back to the grind!
