Update on the plagiarism case

Fresh when it gets here from Julie Barrett

This is the one I mentioned here back on the 11th. This story has taken a number of odd twists, the latest of which is a newspaper interview with the woman who got scammed in the first place.

Yes, she's finally admitted she got scammed. This article is hardly the earth-shattering vindication I'm sure she'd hoped for.

So how do I say I feel sorry for her ... yet I don't? I feel sorry that she was scammed. I really do. Her behavior since the allegations broke, however, has caused me to drop just about every shred of sympathy I had for her in that department. Yes, I can understand the initial shock and the need to lash out. Once she realized she'd been taken, though, that's when it all fell apart for me. I agree with the guy quoted in the article; if she'd just apologized and removed the material she wouldn't be in this boat right now. Heck, I'd have understood if she waited a day to be sure that the information filling her inbox was accurate before she removed the material. Instead, she entrenched herself in the belief that she had done nothing wrong because she was the victim of a scam.

Read the article for more information.
