Measurements

Meet the lovely and talented Honoria Glossop*. We crossed paths at an antique mall several years ago. She was looking for a job, and I was looking for a model who would work for cheap - a match made at the cash register when I whipped out my check card.

Honroia doesn't always stand up straight, but would you if you were an antique dress form? She does stand proud, so please don't mention all those pins, which she accepts with nary a whimper. You'll notice that her form isn't exactly perfect, but then neither are the rest of us. If Your Seamstress were to model these cloaks, our photographer wouldn't have a wide angle lens that would fit her hips in the frame. Besides, we fear her mug may break the camera.

Enough about Honoria; you want to buy a cloak!

Measurements are very simple, but it really helps to have a friend available to help. You'll notice in the picture below that the tape goes along the curve of Honoria's shoulders, from right about where her arm socket (if she had one) would meet the shoulder, to the same point on the other side. We are jealous of Honoria's 16" shoulders, but we won't talk while she's holding the pins. If you are wearing the cloak over a heavy costume we suggest you wear the top in order to get an accurate measurement.
.

Your next measurement is for the length. Please wear the footwear that you plan to wear with the cloak. This is important if you're buying a cloak to go with a particular costume.

Our measurements start at the nape of the neck. This is generally where the shirt meets the collar. On the cloak, that's where the hood and ties meet the rest of the cloak. Now, measure to the point where you want the hem of the cloak to fall. Remember to start at the "0" point on your tape measure, and not at the metal tip. Some tape measures have an inch or more of blank space between the tip and the "0" mark. You don't want to throw off your measurements!

* We know that's not her real name, but we don't ask and she doesn't tell!
