It's been a week here. Not in a bad way, though.
Back on Wednesday I believe I mentioned that I'd hoped to get through a current batch of photos by Friday. Nope, I only got through what was on the desk, waiting to be done on Thursday. And that was finished on Saturday. But there are very good reasons!
As I mentioned at one time, I have my genealogy software open while I do this. It's partly to fully identify people in a photo. (Mary? Which Mary? Seriously, one person's grandmother's are both named Mary.) Acquiring further data means expanding the tree, and going down rabbit holes. However, one must be very careful in attaching new relatives to the tree. I'd briefly made a great-grandfather a bi polygamist. Hey, I don't judge, but it's important to get the facts, er, straight. I was surprised the software didn't even try to do an "are you sure?" before I made that attachment.
Second, I'd forgotten I'd had some adulting to do this week - like making sure the bills were paid and the checking account balanced.
Third, and the best: I've had the energy to do some things in the mornings, and I figured I'd take advantage of it. I did a few things on the patio, actually put a bunch of my zippered notebooks away, and cleared out a bunch of stuff in the craft room. The latter was enough to fill the cargo area of the car behind the seats, so I decided to do a donation run in the afternoon before I could change my mind. Also hit a couple of thrift stores and got - surprise! - more zipper binders.
Yesterday I kinda took it easy though I did finish cataloging the photos on my desk. Today I did until the Amazon delivery showed up. We were going to replace the throw pillows in the living room (they could be carbon dated), when I realized I had some perfectly good ones from Ikea on the guest bed in the craft room. Of course, the colors on the covers were wrong, but since these were pillow inserts with covers, I just ordered more covers. Those showed up today, along with a small rug to replace my deteriorating chair mat. The old pillow covers are in the wash and will make a fine backup for when the cat leaves a present on a pillow.
My next task is to take the acid-free tissue paper that was also in today's delivery and wrap a book of photos that was assembled in 1868. Some of the photos are tintypes that pre-date the book. So yes, I want to treat it with care.
I leave you with an image of what may be the oldest tintype in the book. She's one of the aforementioned Marys.
