Another Busy Day

Still waiting on my organization items to arrive, but I've still managed to have a busy day.

Spent this morning (part of it while wearing my weighted vest) doing some more work in the craft room. As much as I love the set of rolling wire shelves that I have in there, now I need something more solid for items on the top two shelves. I have too many items on those shelves that have feet, and those get caught in the grid. I was thinking about just adding some wood to the top of those shelves when I noticed a large box that contains the new cutting mat for my work table. Mind you, I bought it back in late June, and there it's been.

So, I unpacked the mat and laid it flat on a coffee table. The box had been sitting on an end all this time and the mat had curled a bit. It may be straightened out by now! In the meantime, I grabbed a box cutter and got to work. Those items are back on the shelves and now they don't get caught in the wire grid! That's the first time since early Fall that I've actually broken a sweat. Yeah, I know.

Another thing I'd started in on after my surgery was to redo the storage in the closet, which, in turn, opened up some shelves on a small bookcase. I have most of my hat blocks there now. The two I use the most are on the top of the wire shelves, which are next to my work table. The DIY spinners have little feet, so now I can easily grab them. The blocks are balsa, so they're not heavy.

I've also been contemplating a project that uses my cutting machine. The computer I've used for years won't connect. I don't know if it's the machine itself, or the Windows 11 upgrade on the computer. I suspect the former, as a few years ago the machine got terribly confused about connections. I'll give it another shot later. But it's good that I'm thinking again about things to make!

Another reason I'm clearing out in there is that I need the sewing machine for something. Maybe I can get that up and running before next week's chemo. Did I say I needed the machine? It's actually something Paul is working on, and he's volunteered to do the sewing. I'm happy to let him have at it.

After a post-lunch break, Chemo Brain remembered she hadn't filed our taxes! I've cut it closer than this, but yeesh. I'd given everything to Paul to look over a couple of weeks ago and told him we'd file the next day, and then I promptly forgot. Since we file electronically, I needed info from his DL, so he had to be available to assist, and he was happy to do so. The deed is done, and I just got the email saying the return was accepted. Hooray!

In celebration, I'm having a zero proof gimlet. In fact, I made it a double!

(ETA: Some may be wondering what a spinner is. When making a hat, it's handy to be able to turn the block while working. Most blocks have a hole in the bottom, and there's an accessory called a spinner which is really just a base with a stick. Place the hat block on the base, and then it's easy to turn! I made mine out of a couple of thrifted wooden paper towel holders - the kind that sit on the counter.)
